Iridologists believe that particular portions of the iris correlate to specific organs within the body. They also believe that the eyes show signs of illness and disease even before symptoms arise. The type of lesions found within a particular portion of the eye can indicate specific broad-based problems, such as swelling. When lesions are found in the part of the eye that relates to the thyroid, iridologists will typically recommend further exploration to pinpoint the exact nature of the cause.

While iridology is a first step in a diagnosis process, it is not meant to be the last. Iridology thyroid findings, for example, indicate an issue, but they do not pinpoint the cause.
